How to install Windows 11 on M1 Mac/MacBook using VirtualBox?

Install Windows 11 on M1 Mac

1. Go to the UTM for Macs official website and click the download button to download the .dmg file

2. Double-click the downloaded dmg file, and you will see a Finder window appear. You will see two things in it- the icon of the application you are about to install and an Applications folder.

3. You need to drag and drop the application icon into the application folder. UTM is now installed on your Mac/Macbook.

4. Now, open the application menu and click on the UTM application icon to open it

5. In the application, click the Create a new virtual machine option.

6. Enter the name of the VM and click Save.

7. Next, in the System tab, make sure to select x86_64  Architecture.

8. Allocate at least 4GB of RAM. Then, click Show Advanced Settings and assign 4 CPU Cores, as shown in the figure below.

9. Keep the settings in the QEMU tab unchanged. In the " Drives" tab, click the " New Drive" button.

10. Select the interface as IDE, and allocate 40GB.

11. Click Import Drive, select the Windows 11 ISO you downloaded, and click Save.

12. Save everything and start the virtual machine we just created from the main menu.

13. Finish Windows 11 installation and setup, and voila! This is how to install Windows 11 on M1 Mac.

Just a reminder. The installation process may take longer because the emulation speed of the x86 operating system is very slow. So the overall experience will be very procrastinated. In addition, UTM does not support GPU emulation/virtualization, so it lacks 3D acceleration.
